Website overhall and graphical update for a language learning platform

Memrise is a language platform based on a simple principal: learning can be painful, but it’s easy when it’s fun. So, Memrise puts less emphasis on traditional teaching techniques, concentrating more on hanging out with native speakers. They call the Memrise method ‘real-life language immersion’.

The client had all sorts of ingenious tools in place, including interactive games and over 50,000 videos featuring native speakers. Everything to transport the user into the ‘real world’ of using a foreign language. But they needed our help in making it easier to navigate and manage. They also wanted to increase conversions and put a spotlight on their USP.
Memrise knew how to bring the best out of the learner, but their website and apps weren’t quite cutting it. So we spent seven months with the client, working out exactly what they needed and the best way to go about it. Working in sprints with their internal teams, we developed their platform to make it just as powerful as their teaching methods.
Way beyond web and app updates, we’ve created a design system that will help Memrise negotiate the twists and turns of their future growth. We worked alongside their team, steering product-level functionality decisions to make the back-end and front-end as simple and effective as possible.
